Christopher was previously Manager of the Contracts Department Peter Brotherhood Ltd; Chief Engineer at AVP Baker Ltd; and a Project Manager responsible for the construction of food plants in the UK, Eire and Canada. His current area of speciality is Climate Change Levy management.
Wastes Management Specialist Simon Penney, BSc (Hons), MSc, CEnv, MCIWM
Simon has expertise in waste policy, legislation, strategy, regulation and education. This has been gained working at local, national and international level. He has worked with local and national government departments, industry, academia, regulators, NGOs, community and commercial sectors. He has a special interest in international environmental policy and is involved in the Tsunami relief response in Sri Lanka. Simon has contributed to the Sustainable Development Policy for the City of Edinburgh Council and is a member of the Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group on Wastes Management. He holds a masters degree in wastes management and is a Chartered Waste Manager, Chartered Environmentalist and Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society, and runs his own consultancy practice, Promise Consulting, see www.promiseconsulting.org.uk.

A freelance consultant with extensive knowledge and experience in gas and oil combustion technology. Specialising in direct fired process and environmental heating, Arthur has undertaken many energy saving surveys for many industrial organisations. His experience comes mainly from work undertaken with British Gas, John Zink and Maxon International where he was UK General Manager for 10 years.

Alain has been associated with the glass industry for more than 8 years, involved in various furnace and melting technologies as well as development of new process concepts for optimising furnace design parameters and furnace performance. He has experience in CFD modelling, construction supervision, commissioning and troubleshooting in various industries, notably serving as a Senior Project Engineer for Laidlaw Drew Ltd, and as Foreman for Veolia (formerly Vivendi Environment).

A freelance consultant with 30 years experience of all rotating equipment, particularly the design, commissioning and trouble-shooting of steam turbines and their control systems. Experience has been gained on Peter Brotherhood Ltd equipment, together with that of many other manufacturers, in power generation and mechanical drivers in the petrochemical, embedded generation, sugar mills and marine industries worldwide.
Terry has a proven record of training personnel both for OEMs and clients, in formal lectures and on site. He has published several articles and papers in the technical press.

A freelance consultant based in Germany with a background in the industrial power generation and biomass industries with particular expertise in drying technologies which are often used in association with de-dusting. Karl was a Board Member of the environmental equipment company Walther & Cie before taking responsibility for EVT’s Cologne office (now Alstom Power) which supplies industrial steam generators and MSW incineration firing and heat recovery.

A freelance consultant with a background in industrial power generation, renewable energy, gas compression, and the petrochemical and refrigeration industries. Ian worked for MAN GHH in the UK, Germany and the USA before becoming Managing Director of Howden Compressors, then of Caledonian Compressors (a company he started), and then of Peter Brotherhood Ltd. Ian is a Distinguished Lecturer for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and has published many technical articles worldwide.

A freelance consultant with over 30 years of experience in commercial management within the construction industry, mainly for international projects. His experience has been gained working for major international contractors including Bovis and Taylor-Woodrow throughout Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa and the USA. Chris has a background in estimating and bid management and more recently has been involved in the development of project-financed infrastructure schemes. He has particular experience in contract negotiation, project structuring and risk evaluation.
